Jazz - Rally (9. - 11. June 2011)
Summer in Altstadt. Three days of Swing, Blues, Dixieland, traditional and modern jazz. The streets are singing and grooving. Two "Jazz Shuttle" ships go between the Altstadt and Media Hafen, bringing the visitos from one concert to another.
More than 80 concerts in three days! The stages range from open air places, numerous bars and disco to historical tram, which takes visitors through the city. The most famous concert stage during Jazz Rally is the Rheintower, which offers Jazz brunch in 170 meter high Panorama Lounge.
Tradition and search for the new ways are successfully combined in this festival, which results in the quality of the yearly brilliant event.
Altstadt-Herbst (15. September - 03. October 2010)
In autumn Altstadt turns into a stage for many young and extra-ordinary artists from all over the world and become a breathtaking meeting point for all friends of music, theater and dance. The Youth Culture Festival takes place under the motto "The scent of unknown" and offers its visitors more than 80 performances, conducted in the churches, museums, galleries, bars and even banks. The festival content is very rich and ranges from experimental music and dance performances at the stage of ISIS theatre; specially constructed for this purpose at the Altstadt main square Burgplatz, to choir performances in the churches, orchestra concerts in the galleries and literary readings in the museums. More than 100.000 visitor come every year to Düsseldorf to enjoy this event.
Rhine-Carnival (especially 03. - 09. March 2011)
The Carnival season begins on 11. November (2010) with the awakening of the Hoppeditz and usually is followed by the crowning of Carnival Prince and Princess. The Carnival is officially opened on Thursday (03. March 2011) and from here on there will be "crazy" days; full of street parties, mask balls and a colourful official parade on Rose Monday (07. March 2011), which is the highlite of Carnival.
More than 60 different carnival societies go along the Altstadt streets in Düsseldorf, their members wear fancy dress and clown masks, drive huge cart-wheelers, they sing, dance and generously spread sweets and small gifts over the heads of fascinated spectators.
The carnival party lasts for three days and nights and this time is marked with a lot of dancing, singing, eating and drinking in the streets until the late night. The celebration will be ended on Ash Wednesday with the burning of Hoppeditz, who will be burried until the next year.
